Introduction
Message from the Chair
Welcome, and thanks for the visiting the Economic Geography Research Group (EGRG) website. The EGRG is one of the largest and most active of the Royal Geographical Society with IBG's 28 research groups. We have over 230 members (who are RGS-IBG Fellows). Having taken over this year as Chair, I’m responsible overall for the group's activities and I also look after the website.
The general remit of the EGRG is to foster research in economic geography in the UK and beyond by organising meetings, seminars, developing networks among economic geographers and other social scientists, and promoting the publication of research.
As you will see from this website, the EGRG is involved in a wide range of activities. We sponsor many sessions at the annual RGS-IBG conference and also organise an annual research/postgraduate symposium. We are also now in our eleventh year of awarding prizes to recognise postgraduate research excellence in economic geography. We have our own Working Paper and Book Review series, and the website also acts as a portal to a range of other websites of interest to economic geographers.
Of course, we are always looking for new things to do to promote and develop economic geography! So please get in touch if you have any ideas about the EGRG: these may range from simply suggesting links for the website to proposing new events or activities we could be pursuing. We would be delighted to hear from you.
For a summary of our activities in 2008, please see my January 2009 Annual Report (PDF, 30 KB).
